The fastest man to pull a two-ton vehicleBirmingham strongman Kevin Brown is a record-breaker after he became the fastest man to pull a two-ton vehicle over 100 metres.
Athlete Kevin achieved a record time of 37 seconds cheered on by crowds at the Sutton Coldfield Community Games held at Wyndley Leisure Centre on Sunday 14 July.
And this follows his success when he first took the record at the end of June at the Alexander Stadium Community Games when he pulled the vehicle in one minute 18 seconds.
A two-times Commonwealth Games finalist, 17 time gold medallist West Midlands champion, 20 time British champion and four times World Masters champion, Kevin is no stranger to setting himself challenges but even he admits this has been tough. But he had a strong reason for wanting to succeed.
“I am an Ambassador for the League of Friends for John Taylor Hospice and I wanted to do something really public to raise awareness of the League of Friends and John Taylor Hospice,” he said.
“Jaguar Land Rover donated a Land Rover to the League of Friends and initially I had planned to pull that vehicle but it turned out to be heavier than two-ton. So we went back to JLR and they lent us this vehicle for the Two-Ton 100m Car Pull.
“I tried it out and realised I needed to do a lot of training to achieve the record so they have let me use the car for a couple of test pulls each week for the past few weeks. I was amazed though when I got such a fast time at the Alexander Stadium – and it gave me a real challenge for the Sutton Coldfield Community Games.”
Kevin beat the previous world record of 2 minutes 44 seconds by more than two minutes but has to wait while the Guinness World Record adjudicators confirm he has the new record.
In the meantime he’s proud of his achievement.
“I am always setting myself goals and this has been a really hard one but it’s great that we were able to do it. I hope it really helps raise awareness of the League of Friends and John Taylor Hospice.”
League of Friends for John Taylor Hospice Chairperson Sue Jones said: “We are so proud of Kevin. He set himself a terrific goal and has achieved it with flying colours. A huge well done from all of us.”
